Role Overview:
The UN Volunteer will contribute to enhancing climate change and disaster-related statistics in sub-Saharan Africa by:
- Developing digital products to support national reporting on the Sendai Framework in target countries.
- Engaging with the Community of Practice and increasing project visibility.
Key Responsibilities:
Under the supervision of Programme Management Officers from UNEP’s SDG and Environment Statistics Unit and in collaboration with UNDRR, the UN Volunteer will:
- Digitalize a self-assessment tool for analyzing data availability and identifying gaps in disaster-related statistics.
- Develop a digital toolkit to support roadmap implementation, sustainability of government efforts, and strengthen partnerships at regional and national levels.
- Create communication materials, including a project flyer and social media content.
- Update the UNEP SDG portal with relevant information.
Required Skills & Experience:
- Experience in software/application development and database management.
- Working knowledge of Content Management Systems (e.g., Drupal), PHP programming, and MySQL.
- Strong skills in document drafting, reporting, and editing.
- Excellent interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, etc.) and database management.
- Ability to work independently under tight deadlines.
- Prior experience with UNEP, the UN system, or international organizations is an asset.
Required Experience: Minimum 1 year
Required Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field
- Languages: Fluency in English required; working knowledge of French desirable
